Teach a girl, feed a village

Why Girls

In most of the world's poorest regions, girls suffer the biases of male-dominated societies. Often unwanted, they face abuse, exploitation and are even viewed as expendable. The very idea of educating girls is rarely considered, but girls' education changes everything.

Girls suffer most.
Girls' education is life-changing.

Worldwide, 60 million girls aged 6-11 are out of school each year.
Education feeds a village. Each year of education above the average earns a woman 10-20% more money. Also, women reinvest 90% of their income into their families... men, only 30-40%.
100 million girls will drop out of school before finishing the primary level.

Over half a million women and girls are trafficked each year.
Education is one of the most powerful tools in preventing human trafficking. It increases girls' self-awareness and economic opportunity, reducing the risk of being trafficked.
In India, 1.2 million children are prostitutes.

38% of girls in developing countries are child brides.
Education builds resistance against child marriage. A girl with seven or more years of education will delay marriage by four years. She will also have two fewer children.
One in seven marries before age 15.

A 50-country study indicates that at least 16% of women have been physically abused.
Education is linked to reduced abuse. Educated women tend to marry educated men and have the power to stand up against abuse.
150 million girls experience sexual violence.

The poorest fifth of women average six births compared to 3.2 among the richest fifth.
Education saves lives. Even one more year of education above average can reduce infant mortality by 5-10%. Educated mothers are also 50% more likely to immunize their children than uneducated mothers.
Health issues result in 250 million years of productive life lost in women each year.

SHOW A GIRL THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT SHE CAN CHANGE THE FACE OF POVERTY, AND SHE WILL SHOW YOU THAT SHE CAN.
